(Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City) On August 15, 2025, Professor Lin Wei-Chih, Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City, attended a friendly football exchange to support student-athletes from Kaohsiung Municipal Lu-Chu Senior High School of Taiwan and the EMASI International Bilingual School of Vietnam. The event, co-hosted by the two schools and facilitated by the Education Division, provided a valuable platform for athletic competition and cultural interaction. This match serves as a commendable model for sports and educational exchange between Taiwan and Vietnam.
The exchange was the culmination of close collaboration among the Education Division, Lu-chu Senior High School, and EMASI International School. In the opening remarks, Principal Jheng-chuan Lu articulated that the football team from Lu-chu Senior High School is a distinguished force in southern Taiwan, having secured the national championship in 2007 and the Youth Cup in 2021. The team's success is attributed not only to the players' exceptional skills but also to their unwavering spirit of perseverance, which consistently garners the respect of their opponents. The current coach, Meng-hsuan Hsieh, an alumnus and former national Taiwanese team player, expressed his commitment to mentoring his junior counterparts, imparting both technical expertise and the values of exemplary sportsmanship.
Football is also a core component of the curriculum at EMASI International School, which emphasises the holistic development of its students. The campus is equipped with international-standard sports facilities and training programs. Within this learning environment, students enhance their physical conditioning through football while cultivating the values of teamwork and personal growth.
In his opening remarks, Professor Lin explained that modern education aims to foster well-rounded student development by encouraging learners to engage in extracurricular pursuits, such as sports and the arts, to broaden their perspectives. "It is my hope that through this friendly match," he stated, "we not only demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship but also deepen the educational ties between Taiwan and Vietnam." He elaborated that this collaboration should expand from the tertiary and secondary levels to include primary and middle school education, thereby reinforcing the bilateral friendship.
Professor Lin concluded by affirming that the Education Division will continue to facilitate similar exchange initiatives, creating opportunities for teachers and students from both nations to visit, interact, and cultivate lasting friendships. He expressed his aspiration that these initiatives will provide students with global perspectives, foster closer relations between the peoples of Taiwan and Vietnam, and collaboratively create an enhanced environment for sports and education.
