Students from Yi Chang Junior High School in Hualien, Taiwan, attended classes alongside Indian students from classes VII and VIII

Students from Yi Chang Junior High School in Hualien, Taiwan, visited India for a week-long cultural exchange programme. This marks the first time that junior high school students from Taiwan have visited India, fostering cross-cultural understanding and friendship.

Led by Principal Liang Chung Chih, the Taiwanese students arrived at Ramjas International School in R K Puram, New Delhi. During their stay, they attended classes alongside Indian students from classes VII and VIII. The immersive experience allowed them to explore the rich tapestry of Indian foods, culture, history, and religion. Besides enjoying Indian food, the students also visited historical monuments and ancient temples.

By focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) 13 Climate Action, the students explored practical activities to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. It is inspiring to see students from both schools actively sharing their perspectives, cultures, and experiences, enriching the exchange, and fostering mutual understanding.

Lessons in disaster management
Learning about safety measures, such as how to respond to major earthquakes, also highlights the practical and valuable knowledge gained through such cross-cultural interactions. The warm hospitality extended by Indian host families left a lasting impression on the Taiwanese visitors. They sampled traditional Indian dishes, engaged in lively conversations, and formed bonds that transcended geographical boundaries.

Organised by the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC), Taiwan aims to have similar programmes to encourage diversity in schools. By fostering connections between Taiwanese and Indian youth, Peters Chen, Director of Education Division, aims to promote global citizenship and cross-cultural collaboration for young students of India and Taiwan. The study tour also included visit to historical monuments such as Taj Mahal and exploring the vibrant city of Jaipur provided them with valuable insights into India's rich history and cultural heritage. Principal Liang said, “Our students return home with not just memories but newfound friendships and a deeper appreciation for the rich heritage of India.”
