Our school is located in a typical rural community, nestled in the Hualien Valley between the Central and Coastal Mountain Ranges quietly. Asbestos Mountain, once a region for asbestos mining during the Japanese colonial period, saw many old residents of Shou-feng participate in the life of mining asbestos and talc. Asbestos crystallizes into Taiwan jade after long periods of high temperature and pressure. Nearby our school are the Japanese-style shrine "Bilian Temple," the "Cultural and Historical Museum" with Japanese-style architecture, and the experimental school "5wayhouse" The surrounding farmland promotes organic farming, which is actively promoted in Shoufeng Township.
Most residents are indigenous Amis people, Hoklo, and Hakka people. Indigenous students account for 35.06% of the population. The school district is vast, resulting in a diverse and heterogeneous student body.
Our school's vision is "humanity, technology, diversity, excellence." Humanity places people at the center, recognizing the core values of life education. Technological development is for convenience, allowing individuals to fully realize their value. Diverse teaching aims to leverage teachers’ expertise to facilitate adaptive student development. Excellence aims to cultivate future local leaders. The school is a place for developing talent in every student, providing adaptive teaching and assessment to realize a safe, friendly campus and fair and just education.
Our mathematics and science teachers have established a maker club for many years, developing courses in technology fields for self-makers and Scratch programming design experiments, and inspiring students' hands-on abilities. Despite being a rural school, outstanding projects are presented every year, and participation in various scientific competitions has achieved remarkable results. We have won awards in the National Academic Essay Competition for ten consecutive years, as well as in art exhibitions and national folk song competitions, receiving awards at the county or national level. In addition, we have excelled in track and field, team relay, taekwondo, weightlifting, and tug-of-war.
In recent years, the practice of single-domain or cross-domain literacy propositions has gradually shown results. Improvements in text comprehension and answering techniques have led to improvements in exam scores across all subjects. Furthermore, our collaboration with bookstores to hold book fairs has encouraged reading, yielding the best results in promoting reading habits.
In response to the implementation of the new curriculum, we cultivate students' critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. We have developed school-based curriculum, providing cross-disciplinary, diverse, and life-oriented courses that are not solely focused on college entrance. We adhere to the 12-Year Basic Education Vision of "developing talent in every student—nurture by nature, and promoting life-long learning" and our outstanding performance is highly appreciated by parents in the school district.
However, "effective teaching" requires an improvement in teachers' curriculum awareness, and the "diverse development of the curriculum" is the goal of our teaching efforts. Prioritizing student learning, valuing teacher professional development, and administrative support for teaching enable teachers and students to grow and learn happily. We strive to create a perfect and high-quality school environment to developing talent in every student.
