Our school is named "磐石", which means a big solid rock. The name was actually from a paragraph of the Bible. It reads: “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
Teaching Philosophy
As for the school mottos, it’s all about honesty, modesty, diligence, and frugality. Our school focus on life education and character education, and aims to educate students to be caring, energetic, and confident.
Location
Our school is located in the city center of Hsinchu, in the northern part of Taiwan. So, the streets near our school are always congested during rush hours. But at the same time, the life function is convenient. There’s even a Starbucks just across the road. Also, we have our own school buses for those who live far from the school.
Program/Department
We have 4 different programs at our school. First of all, the general subject. Our school has a great reputation on academic performance, and students here engage in various events apart from studying, such as English drama contest and science competition. Next, is the Department of Data Processing. They learn many things from computer skills and coding to accounting and commerce. The third is the department of the mechanical engineering. Students spend about 1.5 days a week to know how to operate the lathes, any other metal cutting machines and even the 3D printers. The last is the department of electrical engineering. Students must know how to do electrical wiring, commercial piping, and learn mechatronics.
Daily Life
Regular school hours is from 8:10 to 5:10 pm. There’s one thing special: A hymn is broadcast three minutes before every class in order to remind students to prepare for the next class.
There are over 40 clubs in our school, ranging from sports, dancing, volunteers, science, and even magic.
Major Events
For 10th graders, civic training is a 2-day camp that aims to build team spirit in a class for the freshmen. In the camp, we do many outdoor activities and wide games. We have to cooperate and take care of each other to survive the challenging tasks. After the event, we will learn the importance of being a team player.
There is a drama contest for 11th grader. The content of the drama is related to the stories in the Bible, or about famous saints like Mother Teresa. To put on the best play, Students have to write the script, make the props, and rehearse again and again. Through this activity, they not only know more about the spirit of Church but also learn to work together as a team.
The rite of passage is the one of the most important events for grade 12. In this activity, students start with writing letters to thank people around us. Then, they dress up for the formal occasion and watch a video showing everyone’s baby picture and a present picture. In the ceremony, students will be given “light”, be capped with a wreath, and drink a glass of light cocktail to symbolize being a grown up. Finally, students exchange letters with parents and read together, showing love and gratitude. This is the most touching moment of the day.
