NHES was founded in 1967 as an educational institute for students with special needs, especially physically challenged students. Tsai Chin-sung was assigned as the first principal of the school.
In 1968, the school officially recruited students for both elementary and junior high school programs. In 1981, the school added Dept. of Arts and Crafts in its vocational school program. In 1986, the preschool program was added. In 1988, Dept. of Home Economics was added in its vocational school program. In 1996, Dept. of Practical Skills was added. In 2002, the school was assigned to recruit students with exceptional performances in Physical Education.
In 1996, Huang Ching-hua, the second principal of the school was assigned as the fourth principal.
In 2003, Lien Hsueh-yuan was assigned as the fifth principal.
In 2005, the school added its senior high school program and was renamed National Hemei Experimental School, recruiting students in the community.
In 2007, Lin I-hui was assigned as the sixth principal.
In 2008, the school was awarded in recognition of its exceptional performances in student counseling and building a friendly campus.
In 2009, the school was recognized as one of the best “High Quality Senior High Schools”, “Educational Internship Institutes”, “Physical Education Programs” and carried out “Teachers’ Evaluation Program.”
Received “Premium Award in Special Education Evaluation of 98th Academic Year,” “National Demonstration School of Barrier-free Environment,” “Demonstration School of Student-friendly School Environment and Human Rights Education,” and “The School of Promoting Character and Moral Education” from MOE in 2010.
Nominated the first practice school of “Do good things, Speak good words, Think good thoughts,” and established comprehensive vocational department in 2011.
Received excellence award in “Student-friendly School Environment of 100th Academic Year” from Ministry of Education in 2012.
Received the first prize award in “Special School Evaluation of 101st Academic Year” again and given the certificate of “Quality High School” when Li Chung-yi took over as the seventh principal of NHES in 2013.
Received the first prize award in “School Evaluation of Senior High School of 103rd Academic Year” from MOE in 2014.
Received the first prize awards in “Character Education Featured School of 104th Academic Year,” “Life Education Featured School of 103rd and 104th years from Ministry of Education,” and “Evaluation of Disability Employment Support Services of 103rd year in Changhua County” in 2015.
Mr. Wu Hsing-hong assumed the position of the eighth principal of National Hemei Experimental School in 2017.
Received “SEED Program in Life Education and Campus Culture of 107th Academic Year” in 2018.
Won excellence award again in “School Evaluation of Senior High School of
1st Semester of 108th Academic Year” in 2019.
Principal Wu Hsing-Hung continued the position of the ninth principal in 2021.

1. NHES is the only inclusive school with able-bodied senior high students and students with special needs. The ratio of the former to the latter stands at 3:2. The total number of the students is around 580. NHES is the first school to establish the “Family Seniors System,” in which students can support and take care of one another.
2. NHES was recognized as “A Good School of Character and Moral Education” in 2013 and had been granted subsidies on “Life Education” from 2015 to 2017 by MOE. Viewing all-around education as the core value, NHES has been promoting life education for a long time.
3. After the new curriculum guidelines were launched, NHES organized courses, and activities to develop students’ core abilities. NHES combines school-based features and forms five professional learning communities.
4. Emphasizing gender equality education, NHES establishes a national gender equality education resources center and promotes courses integrated with issues on gender equality education. Principal Wu Hsing-hong serves as the director, and Secretary Liu Siou-fong works as the executive secretary.
5. NHES is an example of friendly and accessible campus environment nationwide, stressing the barrier-free concept, both of the physical environment and the mental atmosphere.
6. Our school is a community school in central Taiwan. We actively provide opportunities for students to display their creativity, earning recognitions from parents.
7. We form coalitions with fifteen schools internationally. We offer multiple curriculums for students to test their interests and engage in practical hands-on learning. We connect teaching materials and resources with junior high schools and elementary schools.
8. Our school utilizes resources from the special education department, such as professional groups, employment attendants, and career counselors, to give high school teachers and students counseling assistance.
9. Our principal leads us with features of life education and inclusive education. We implement self-monitoring by following the core principals of “adaption, creativity, respect, and co-prosperity” in the school development.
10. By nurturing spontaneity, interactivity, and togetherness, we value holistic learning and improve student learning competitiveness according to their abilities and aptitudes.
