In addition to regular curriculum, the school offers diverse special classes for students with art, sports, and music talents. The school launched art classes and sports classes in both junior and senior high department, as well as music classes in junior high department. During these years, we have cultivated plenty of promising professionals. In music classes, we have a wind band, which is a multi-time winner in several music contests in Taiwan. As for the art classes, the artworks of our students appear in National Art Exhibition or Competition very often. Last but not least, our sport classes are made up of several school sports teams, including judo, Taekwondo, baseball, weight-lifting, volleyball, tennis, badminton, track and field team and so on. These teams have been iconic for our school ever since 2001.
In order to develop students’ international perspective and world view, Datong puts great emphasis on International Education through offering our students opportunities to interact with foreigners all over the world. Every year, we have exchange students from different foreign countries to study in Datong, including Brazil, France, Germany, Korea, Japan, USA, just to name a few. Besides, Datong signed up a partnership agreement with a Japanese school in Hiroshima, Sera Senior High School, in 2002. Since then, we have started frequent interaction. Students from Sera come to Datong as one stop of their graduation trip every year, and we also pay them a visit every other year. Even during the time of pandemic, students from both schools still maintain close relationship through email exchange and online interaction. What’s more, educational delegates from overseas often choose Datong to have academic seminars or visits. In the past few years, we have received groups from USA, New Zealand, Thailand, and Japan. The opportunities of interacting and exchanging ideas with people from other parts of the world enable both students and faculties of our school to introduce our own culture and have broader international perspective.
In addition to encouraging students to interact with as many foreigners as possible, we start to integrate SDGS (Sustainable Development Goals) into the core courses of our school these years. Through exploring and trying to solve real-world problems to attain SDGS, our students are building and applying knowledge in an academically rigorous way while developing skills and mindsets as global citizens.
