2.1. The school was founded in August 1971 by the former professor Kang Lo of National Taiwan University, along with another 12 passionate educators. Along with other social elites they were able to raise funding to invest in Taipei Private Dongshan High School. After nearly half a century of hard work, it has achieved the prestigious standing of being the top private school in the Northern District.
2.2. The origin of the "Dongshan" school’s name was proposed by the founding Professor Kang Lo. In terms of geographical location, the school site is located in the southeast of Taipei. On this mountainous forest, the school was named "Dongshan" High School.
2.3. Previous Principals and Chairmen of the Board
The previous principals were Hsung Wang, Yung-Tai Lei, Hsen-Lung Lee, Chia- Yuan Chen since 1971. The current president is Mrs. Li-Mei Chen. The previous chairmen were Xiao-Fen Ling, Huai-Dong Yang , and Master Wu Yuan. Mr. Chin-Fa Chen is the current Chairman of the Board.

2. School Philosophy
2.1. The purpose of establishing the Dongshan High School
The purpose of the establishment of Dongshan is "four good things we have to follow " and "three bad things we mustn’t do." Four good things are "Correct human's heart for this world; pure the unwanted culture for the society; fulfill the duty for the youngsters; and cultivate the talent for the country. "Three bad things are "Do not accumulate wealth that doesn’t belong to you; do not teach students in a wrong way; do not deceive the world."

3. Feature courses
3.1. Life Education
Through the various activities such as Thanksgiving, Writing Competitions, Reading Meditation, Volunteer Services, Career Planning, etc, we advocate and practice the four cores of life education:“Grateful filial piety, respect for teachers, love and care, and determination value.”
3.2. Ecological Teaching
Combining the unique natural environment, we created an“Ecological teaching park”and classify“Ecological education”as part of the school-based curriculum, so that students can experience the mystery of seasonal alternation, and the cycle of all things on campus.
3.3. Bilingual course
There is an international center, employing more than ten foreign teachers. The International Center offers small-group English conversational classes.
3.4 Astronomical Observatory
Using the unique and vast night sky, we have created a "Professional research- level observatory" to allow students to observe the stars, and experience the vastness of the universe.
3.5. Differentiated Instruction
For students with differences in academic performance, the "Creativity Course" and the "Encouragement Course" are offered. Experts and scholars from all walks of life come to the school to teach, and cooperate with the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics of National Taiwan Normal University to lead students to do experiments in the lab. As for the students with poor academic performance, in addition to assisting in reviewing the coursework and keeping up with the study work, they can have fun in "Exploration courses" such as home economics classes and sports to stimulate learning motivation.
