Our Mission
Through international studies, a personalized environment and a college preparatory curriculum, HAIS will prepare students for active roles as global citizens.
Our Guiding Principles and Goals
Individualization
HAIS and teachers will accommodate all students’ diverse needs and talents with a personalized, nurturing environment.
HAIS will support students in identifying and achieving their life goals, in school and out. Promoting the growth of the whole person is one of the school’s primary values.
Students will be active participants in the school and the classroom, assuming responsibility for their own learning. Teachers will guide students in reflection and self-assessment, constantly seeking feedback and evaluation of their progress.
Preparation
HAIS will respect students’ inherent desire to learn by pushing them toward their highest levels of achievement.
HAIS will honor students’ search for meaning and self-motivation by providing authentic, meaningful learning experiences that hold relevance in their lives.
HAIS will prepare students for both higher education and the professional world by immersing them in interdisciplinary and interactive learning experiences. Learning will not be limited to the walls of the classroom—it must include real world experiences.
Perspective
HAIS will prepare students to function as effective, competent and empathetic participants in their local and global communities.
Students will develop self and cultural awareness that will make them empathetic, informed citizens of the modern world.
Instructional Philosophy
We believe that students can and must learn at relatively high levels of achievement. It is our job to create an environment in and outside our classrooms that result in this high level of performance. We are confident that with our support and help, students can master challenging academic material, and we expect them to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, parents and the community to achieve this goal.
An early college school provides the high school-age students with a “seamless” pathway from high school to college.
HAIS allows the high school student to gradually integrate into college course work through his or her traditional high school degree plan. This integration requires dual enrollment, with the student having to show mastery of the knowledge and skills necessary for success (Compass or another HCCS designated requisite test).
HAIS is committed to giving individualized support for each student. Students who graduate from HAIS will potentially have, not only a Texas Scholar diploma, but also will accumulate transferable college credits to the post-secondary institution of their choice. Most Texas Colleges accept HCCS college credits. In both instances, HAIS will provide strong support to each student and the family in obtaining entrance to, and success in, higher education.

Completed a globally focused course of study, including classes, extracurricular activities, and international travel, that has enabled them to develop interest and demonstrate expertise in a specific world culture or an important international issue.
Earned a high school diploma with credits sufficient to pursue a college education in the United States or abroad or to pursue other rigorous post-secondary education.
Learned how to identify options, evaluate opportunities, and organize educational experiences in college to enable them to pursue a career within the global economy.
ISSN graduates are Prepared for Success in a Global Environment. They:
Are 21st century literate and are proficient in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English and in one or more other language.
Analyze and evaluate global issues from multiple perspectives, gather and synthesize relevant information from around the world, and draw conclusions that consider the impact from various viewpoints.
Understand how the world’s people and institutions are interconnected and know how critical international economic, political, technological, environmental, and social systems operate interdependently across nations and regions.
Are proficient in the use of a digital media, can evaluate the validity and integrity of information, and can identify sources of bias.
ISSN graduates are Connected to the World. They:
Understand and value the opportunity to work collaboratively with individuals from cultural backgrounds different from their own and can see the world from the perspective of others.
Are comfortable and competent in different cultural settings and know how to shift behavior and language to respectfully interact with people from different backgrounds.
Understand that decisions and actions taken in the United States may have international consequences and that events worldwide may have national and local implications.
Understand their responsibility to make ethical decisions and responsible choices, to weigh the consequences of their actions for themselves and others across the globe, and to act toward the development of a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.
