Founder: Dr. John Z. J. Yao
The founder of the school,Dr. John Z. J. Yao was born into a Catholic family. Both of his parents were devoted Catholics. Thanks to a religious upbringing and his parents’ prayers, Dr. Yao was able to successfully complete the education of the monastery and went to the University of Santo Domus in Rome to study for a master’s and a doctorate degree.
1944
The founder served as a priest and the principal of Sande Elementary School while in China. This is the reason why he decided to embark on a career in education and later came to Taiwan to establish Sacred Heart School.
In the midst of the political turmoil in China, the Chinese Communist party ordered the arrest and imprisonment of Catholic priests and nums. After receiving the news, Dr. Yao decided to flee the country. With the assistance of the faithful priests and bishops in Taiwan, he made it to Taiwan in 1953 and was assigned the missionary work in Yilan.
