Even though the pandemic stopped airways and took away opportunities for students acquiring international experiences, some schools have found ways to manage international exchanges under the pandemic. Like Taiwanese teachers, many Korean teachers are also seeking opportunities to conduct international exchanges. Since Taiwan is one of the neighbors of Korea, numerous Korean teachers are looking for a partner school via International Exchange Window. Until then, many Taiwanese schools have successfully found their partner schools through IEW, and Hsing Hwa high school is one of the Taiwanese schools matched with Korean schools.
On April 8th, Hsing Hwa high school students conducted its first international online exchange session with Korea counterpart school. 13 students made presentations and introduced themselves to the students of Bucheon-buk high school. The online session was organized by the teachers from both schools. Teachers worked online discussing topics and activities and trying their best to provide meaningful experience for students. Mr. Cheng, a teacher from Hsing Hwa high school, said that they are planning to have more online sessions after this, to talk about different topics such as K-pop, movies, dramas, and cultural differences.
Through the online activity, students enhance their English speaking skills and make friends with Korean students. They expect to meet their Korean friends in person in the future.
